Giovanni da Verrazano

Giovanni da Verrazano is an explorer who represented France that mapped the coast of the Americas. Verrazano was originally from Florence but was hired in France. He mapped from the area of North Carolina to Newfoundland in 1524; however, he was not able to map Asia. He was the first European to sight New York.
Jacques Cartier

Jacques Cartier is an explorer who represented France. He left France in 1534. Cartier went on 3 voyages. He sailed past Newfoundland and entered the St. Lawrence River; however, in the mid 1500s, there was the French civil war, so Cartier could not go on any more voyages.
